Why Americans Have Loved Baseball for so Long
From the standpoint of many North Americans, baseball is the absolute perfect sport. From their vantage point, it is a sport where everything works perfectly. The players even play the game on a diamond. How much more perfect could a sport get?
And while it’s one thing to watch the sport sitting in front of the television, it is another thing entirely to be at one’s favored ballpark watching the team they’ve loved since they were a child and wearing the best baseball T-shirts with the logo of the best team in the game.
Baseball is a sport that’s constantly changing and that is constantly evolving. Older fans remember things like the dead ball era, whereas younger fans may be familiar with the long ball era. Regardless of the changes, the sport has maintained its popularity. Just think about how long baseball has been an important part of the psyche in the United States. American football has been around for around six decades. However, by comparison, baseball has been played for more than one and a half centuries. It’s about as popular and as long-lived as any sport can get.
Some would argue that the popularity of baseball stems from how energetic it is to see a person hit a home run. In 99.9 percent of the cases, when a player hits a home run, the score counts. There is no question about it, there is no doubt about it. A home run is a home run. But think about American football. A touchdown is scored, and yet the play needs to be reviewed time and time again from different angles to make sure that the player actually scored. Baseball is clean, neat, and to the point. The ball goes over the yellow stripe and it’s a home run.
Another attractive thing about baseball is its leisurely manner. Think of sports like American football, soccer, or basketball and you will note that they are all on a timer. This is not true for baseball. Each team has the exact same number of chances to score or not. If nine innings come and the game is a tie, no big deal. The players get three more chances. And that will go on indefinitely until the game is won.
And since there are so many baseball games,there are so many options to watch the game being played. If a person’s favorite team does not play today, there’s no worry because they likely will play tomorrow.
