Our favourite street style looks from Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2021

ToggleAfter years of wondering if street style had become overrated, or at least less authentic, I was surprised to find I missed the usual parade of beautifully-dressed fashion insiders and influencers over this recent fashion season. With the global travel restrictions and health concerns, the majority of international buyers and editors simply stayed home this season and experienced fashion week digitally.
Luckily — when many brands in Milan and Paris went forward with live, in-person presentations — we did start seeing new street style photos online featuring Europe-based show attendees. The looks were overall more relaxed and less elaborate than in seasons past, but it was certainly nice to see, and to feel a little inspired by how the style set is dressing and getting creative with their wardrobes in these strange times.
Here are ten great street style outfits from fashion month, and the styling tips and ideas you can steal from each, no shopping required.
In fashion articles, we often talk about mixing animal prints. This photo from Milan Fashion Week, featuring bloggers Jacqueline Zelwis and Lois Opoku, demonstrates how to do it well! I love that the various prints are all in the same colour family, and they’re paired with more muted, classic pieces like a camel coat and jeans.
One more shot of Jacqueline Zelwis in Milan. If you have a midi-length dress that’s just sitting in the closet because it feels too “dressy” for daytime excursions, consider adding a fanny pack or extra-wide belt to create a look that’s slightly more casual.
The perfect way to wear your off-white footwear through fall and winter? Paired with a cozy, cream coloured coat.
Why save your pretty jewelry for eveningwear and gowns? I like how DJ and musician Fiona Zanetti styled a charming choker necklace precisely between her (closed) leather trench coat and black mask in this photo to add a dash of sparkle.
Most of us are probably not wearing suits very often these days. But when the occasion arises, there’s something nice about styling slightly oversized suiting with a clunky pair of platform boots instead of heels or dress shoes.
Instead of layering something glittery or shiny with a more neutral partner, I like how model Tina Kunakey wore a sequinned coat over a shimmery mesh turtleneck to attend the Valentino show. The key to pulling this idea off (besides being a stunning model!) is sticking to the same colour family for both sparklers.
Chain link necklaces are definitely trending again this fall. The comfiest way to wear them? Layered over a fitted, solid colour turtleneck.
Look closely at stylist and content creator Gabriella Berdugo’s feet. It’s amazing how a simple pair of fishnet socks can transform a summery pair of shoes for fall. Mesh or tulle socks can also do the job; you could even cut a pair of stockings into new crew socks.
This look on German fashion influencer Leonie Hanne is a reminder to occasionally tuck in my cozy, oversized knits this fall. It’s a quick way to dress up a sweater look instantly.
This pretty minimalist outfit by influencer and fashion podcaster Camille Charriere has me digging in my closet for an oversized, printed scarf to loosely tie over my tailored camel coat. The visual impact is much stronger than if she had worn the scarf tucked in.
