Hey Beauty Lovers!
Today I’m going to be talking about one of my favorite skincare ingredients… Mugwort.
What the f*** is mugwort? I’m glad you asked!
Skincare Benefits of Mugwort
Mugwort is a plant with deep North American roots. It is actually illegal to sell mugwort seeds and plants in NY because it is considered a noxious weed. You can actually find wild mugwort plants all over NY, especially in the mountains.
This is not to say that mugwort can’t be found elsewhere around the globe. In fact, it also has deep Asian roots! As an herbalist, I have to mention that mugwort is a fantastic herb with very powerful medicinal properties. I can personally tell you that mugwort actually does some amazing things to the skin.
Korea is always setting trends in the skincare community with their innovative products and focus on effective ingredients. One of the ingredients that blew up a few years ago was mugwort extract/powder.
So what can mugwort do for your skin?
Here are a few of the skincare benefits of mugwort:
- Calming
- Soothing
- Hydrating
- Antibacterial
- Balancing
That sounds like an amazing ingredient to include in your skincare routine, right?
I think so too!
I’m From Skincare
I’m From is a natural skincare brand from Ganghwa, Korea. Their products use the finest ingredients and they focus on a more holistic treatment of the skin. This means that they carefully source their ingredients and the quality of their products is one of the best in the k-beauty community right now.
The type of mugwort they use in their skincare products is called Japanese Mugwort or Artemisa princeps. For reference, the mugwort that is found natively in NY is called Artemisa vulgaris. These two types of mugwort are very similar, but Japanese Mugwort can be grown here as it is not considered a weed.
I absolutely love the I’m From packaging. From the simple, clean label to the glass packaging, these products look beautiful. I have tried quite a few products from the brand, and the Mugwort line is one of their best for soothing the skin, preventing breakouts, and keeping the skin balanced.
The Mugwort line can be used by all skin types, but they are especially beneficial for anyone with oily and/or acne-prone skin.
Ok, are you finally ready to talk about the products?
Let’s go…
I’m From Mugwort Mask
The I’m From Mugwort Mask ($29.75 with my code MIRIAM15) is one of my favorite treatments for breakouts. Whenever I feel a pimple coming through, I slather on this mask and relax. The breakout is always minimized, does not get red or irritated, clears up quicker, and never leaves behind hyperpigmentation.
With a chunky, jelly texture, this mask may fall off your face if you apply it too thickly. If you do feel it sliding, lay down for the 10 minutes you need to leave it on, your skin will recover quicker if you relax. Cortisol is NOT good for breakouts!
When using this mask, it is important to stay away from exfoliants (physical and chemical) and to wear sunscreen before heading outside. Be kind to your skin when it is irritated and breaking out, exfoliants will only aggravate the problem!
Do you need this mask? No.
Should you get this mask if you can? Yes.
If you have acne-prone skin, I would definitely recommend having this on your shelf. It feels like a dream on the skin, and take a look at that beautiful texture…
Full Ingredients List:
Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Artemisia Princeps Leaf Powder, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cordyceps Sinensis Extract, Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Methylpropanediol, Ligularia Fishceri Leaf Extract, Rosa Davurica Bud Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Sodium Polyacrylaste, Carbomer, Arginine, Phenoxyethanol, Allantoin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Panthenol, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA
I’m From Mugwort Essence
The I’m From Mugwort Essence ($34 with my code MIRIAM15) is truly something special. Formulated with only one ingredient, this essence helps soothe even the most sensitive skin! So, if you are breaking out, have a lot of redness, or your skin is peeling, this essence will help heal the damage and return your skin to its balanced state.
I absolutely love how this essence feels on my face. My skin drinks it up almost instantly, and I generally apply at least two layers to help boost hydration. I don’t use this essence every day, I like to save it for when my skin needs some TLC, but you can use this as often as your skin needs.
After toning, apply a generous amount of essence to your skin with your hands. Pat the product in gently and apply as many layers as needed for your skin type. Oily skin can get away with using one layer of the essence, while drier skin may need up to 3 layers. If you have an area that is particularly sensitive or inflamed, saturate a cotton round with essence and leave it on the spot for 5 minutes.
Check out that beautiful color…

I’m From Mugwort Cream
Like the Mugwort Essence, the I’m From Mugwort Cream ($27.20 with my code MIRIAM15) is another product that can be enjoyed by all skin types. The very first ingredient is mugwort extract, so you know that you are getting an amazing product. Let me tell you, this moisturizer makes my skin feel so soft!
Although the cream looks rich, it sinks into the skin effortlessly without leaving a greasy film on the surface. My skin feels soft and my makeup applies smoothly whenever I use this moisturizer, and my face doesn’t get as flushed during the day. I highly recommend tthe Mugwort Cream if you want to give your skin some extra TLC.
Warning: There is fermented ingredients in this cream, so DO NOT use this product if you have fungal acne!
Doesn’t this cream look stunning????
Full Ingredients List:

Additional Products
There are two additional products in the Mugwort line that I’m not recommending…
I’m not saying that I don’t like these products, I just don’t think they are necessary and I have more effective alternatives that will give you the results you want.
The Mugwort Spot Gel is exactly what it sounds like, a spot treatment formulated with a high concentration of mugwort. This actually does work as a spot treatment for acne, however, I have two alternatives that work a lot better than this one. The Dr. Zenovia Skincare 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Spot Treatment works so well for cystic and hormonal acne. For regular acne, I recommend the COSRX AC Collection Ultimate Spot Cream, it will clear up mild and teenage acne overnight!
The Mugwort Sheet Mask is a nice treat for skin that needs some TLC, but there are better options on the market that I would recommend over this one. The Round Lab Mugwort Calming Sheet Mask and the Goodal Mugwort Mild Sheet Mask are must-haves for anyone with combination and oily skin. They are especially helpful when you have inflamed skin from breakouts or any other reason. However, you can just use the I’m From Mugwort Mask instead…
Wishtrend is also offering two I’m From Mugwort sets that I think you may like:
- Skin Detox Package ($124.61 with the code MIRIAM15)- includes the Mugwort Mask, Essence, Cream, Sheet Mask, and Spot gel
- Mugwort Calming Set ($63.75 with the code MIRIAM15)- includes the Mugwort Essence and Mugwort Cream
How about some sets that include my favorite mugwort skincare products from Stylevana? I have used the Isntree mugwort line, and I am really impressed with the results! Here are links to the sets:
