Here is How to Determine the Right Watch Size for Your Wrists
Table of Contents
ToggleOversize and undersize are always poor performers. Whether it is about your clothes or it’s about your watches. While buyers tend to focus on size when considering clothes, watch size is often ignored. As a result, they end up buying a wrong-sized wristwatch, especially if ordered online. To avoid this issue, you should be aware of the correct watch size that will fit your wrist.
Here, in this article, we try to determine the right watch size for your wrists. For this purpose, we will categorize the size of the wrists. Afterward, we will classify an ideal watch size based on the case diameter. Further, we would analyze other components of the wristwatch while considering case diameter as the base. After reading this article, you will be able to buy a perfect-sized wristwatch based on the size of your wrist.
Small Wrists
Now if you have very thin wrists, let’s say less than 6 inches, you need a wristwatch with a case diameter of less than 34 mm. Now, this size is a perfect fit for the women’s wrists. Hence most of the watches with 34 mm or less case diameter are ideal fit women. But if a man also has very thin wrist, this particular watch size is a suitable choice. Now, 34 mm to 38 mm watch size is suitable for persons whose wrist size is around 6 inches.
Medium Wrists
Medium wrists are optimally sized between 6 inches and 7 inches. Those scouting for the right size in the medium category, they can opt for watches with a case size of 38-42 mm. Generally, most of the watches sold in the market are sized between 38-42 mm.
Large Wrists
Now, if you are a bodybuilder or a countryman with an impressive physique, you wrist size may be larger than the normal size. Hence, it will be categorized as a large size. The circumference of the wrists generally varies 7 to 8 inches. As a general rule of thumb, watches with a larger case diameter are suitable for these types of buyers. The case size should vary between 42-46 mm.
Watch Components
- Case Diameter
This is the most prominent component in a wristwatch that is considered while scouting for the right size. Based on the size of the wrist, the first consideration to select the watch is the case diameter. After the case size has been determined, the future proceedings take place.
- Case Thickness
As the case size increases, the case thickness also increases proportionally. This is not a rocket science. So if the case size varies between 38 mm and 42 mm, an optimum case thickness should be around 7 mm. If the case size is 44 mm and above, the case thickness will be around 9 mm.
- Strap Size
Strap size is generally not a considerable factor. But still, the strap width is generally half the case size. For example, if the case diameter is 42 mm, the strap width would be approximately 21 mm. As mentioned earlier, there are no compulsions. But it is wise to go by the proportionate size to avoid any mismatch.
- Strap Material
Now you have three options here – metallic, leather, and fabric. If you are living in humid conditions or you are into sports, metallic or fabric straps would be preferable. However, if you want a classy watch for formal occasions, the leather strapped watch is what you should look out for.
- Watch Components
Apart from the above aspects, you should consider watch components such as lug size, changer, pusher, and so on. The size of these components should be in proportion to the case diameter, case thickness, and strap size. If these components are too prominent, it may spoil the aesthetics of your wristwatch.
