Do we adapt the desert or do we adapt to the desert? What factors might limit sustainability in the Greater Phoenix area? How could our decisions help create sustainability within our arid environment?
AFRE is pleased to join with the Ecology Explorers program from the Global Institute of Sustainability (GIOS) at ASU to offer a special professional development workshop from 8 am – 4 pm on Saturday, February 9, 2008, hosted by the Riparian Institute at the Gilbert Riparian Preserve (East Valley).

Learning Outcomes and Indicators
By participating in this event, learners will:
- Understand the role of scientific research as a tool for learning about the past and present, and for predicting the future by collecting/analyzing data and making predictions
- Develop a sense of one’s “community” by analyzing historical trends and aerial photos indicating changes over time
- Identify educational resources available for classroom use by participating in a variety of lessons and activities available free from GIOS
