From floor plans to roof tiles, front doors to backyard porches, a home offers a terrific context for learning—especially about technology! Whether you are a veteran or a novice, you will leave this workshop better equipped to help your students understand the powerful role of applied technology in the construction of a home. This workshop also will demonstrate how academic learning can be connected to careers and work in the real world.

Home building (phases and processes, economics), technology, careers

Learning Outcomes and Indicators
By participating in this workshop, learners will:

  • Investigate numerous applications of technology used to design, construct, and maintain a house by exploring the “anatomy” of a home via virtual design.
  • Explore the role of technology in creating affordable homes by comparing home construction using 21st century technology and with those built prior to 1980.
  • Explore diverse career opportunities in the field of home construction by participating in cooperative learning activities.
