It affects everyone but what does “air quality” really mean? What creates “good” or “bad” air? Can you tell the quality of air by looking at its color? How do scientists collect data about the air we breathe every day? Explore the numerous issues surrounding air quality in and around the Greater Phoenix area by learning from scientists who study this problem daily. Engage in classroom experiments designed to help us better understand how data is collected and monitored. Return to your classroom better prepared to address health and quality-of-life issues related to air quality.

Learning Outcomes and Indicators
By participating in this workshop, learners will:
- Identify the role of science and technology in data collection and dissemination by following a trail of data from an air monitoring site to its related website.
- Recognize numerous factors that contribute to overall air quality by participating in classroom experiments and lessons and by hearing from various stakeholders in the area of air quality.
- Understand the difficulty of consistently achieving high standards for air quality within the Greater Phoenix area by comparing air data with economic activity within the area.
- Explore diverse career opportunities in the field of air quality and human health by participating in cooperative learning activities.
